Because of all this ·confusion and shouting [uproar; noise; tumult], the commander could not learn ·what had happened [the truth/facts]. So he ordered the soldiers to take Paul to the ·army building [barracks; ^Cprobably the Roman garrison known as the Antonia fortress, overlooking the temple from the north].
