6 Adonai relented concerning this.
“This also shall not happen,”
says my Lord Adonai.
Plumb Line on a Wall
7 This is what He has revealed to me: Behold, my Lord was standing by a vertical wall, and in His hand was a plumb line. 8 Then Adonai said to me: “What do you see, Amos?”
I said: “A plumb line.”
Then my Lord said:
“Behold, I am setting a plumb line among My people Israel—
I will no longer pass over them.

6 So the Lord relented.(A)
“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.(B)
7 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb,[a] with a plumb line[b] in his hand. 8 And the Lord asked me, “What do you see,(C) Amos?(D)”
“A plumb line,(E)” I replied.
Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.(F)
