“I will restore David’s^(A) fallen shelter^(B)—
    I will repair its broken walls
    and restore its ruins^(C)—
    and will rebuild it as it used to be,^(D)
12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom^(E)
    and all the nations that bear my name,^[a](F)”
declares the Lord, who will do these things.^(G)

“when the reaper^(I) will be overtaken by the plowman^(J)
    and the planter by the one treading^(K) grapes.
New wine^(L) will drip from the mountains
    and flow from all the hills,^(M)
14     and I will bring^(N) my people Israel back from exile.^[b](O)

“They will rebuild the ruined cities^(P) and live in them.
    They will plant vineyards^(Q) and drink their wine;
    they will make gardens and eat their fruit.^(R)
15 I will plant^(S) Israel in their own land,^(T)
    never again to be uprooted^(U)
    from the land I have given them,”^(V)

says the Lord your God.^(W)

the mountain^(B) of the Lord’s temple will be established
    as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,^(C)
    and peoples will stream to it.^(D)

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,^(E)
    to the temple of the God of Jacob.^(F)
He will teach us^(G) his ways,^(H)
    so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law^(I) will go out from Zion,
    the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
³ He will judge between many peoples
    and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide.^(J)
They will beat their swords into plowshares
    and their spears into pruning hooks.^(K)
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
    nor will they train for war^(L) anymore.^(M)

² “But you, Bethlehem^(A) Ephrathah,^(B)
    though you are small among the clans^[a] of Judah,
out of you will come for me
    one who will be ruler^(C) over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,^(D)
    from ancient times.”^(E)

¹⁴ Sing, Daughter Zion;^(G)
    shout aloud,^(H) Israel!
Be glad and rejoice^(I) with all your heart,
    Daughter Jerusalem!
¹⁵ The Lord has taken away your punishment,
    he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;^(J)
    never again will you fear^(K) any harm.^(L)
16 On that day
    they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, Zion;
    do not let your hands hang limp.^(M)
17 The Lord your God is with you,
    the Mighty Warrior who saves.^(N)
He will take great delight^(O) in you;
    in his love he will no longer rebuke you,^(P)
    but will rejoice over you with singing.”^(Q)

¹⁸ “I will remove from you
    all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals,
    which is a burden and reproach for you.
¹⁹ At that time I will deal
    with all who oppressed^(R) you.
I will rescue the lame;
    I will gather the exiles.^(S)
I will give them praise^(T) and honor
    in every land where they have suffered shame.
²⁰ At that time I will gather you;
    at that time I will bring^(U) you home.
I will give you honor^(V) and praise^(W)
    among all the peoples of the earth
when I restore your fortunes^[a](X)
    before your very eyes,”
says the Lord.
