“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.(A) “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,(B) knowing good and evil.”

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable(C) for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband,(D) who was with her, and he ate it.(E)

(A)Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

So when the woman (B)saw that the tree was good for food, that it was [a]pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit (C)and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
