youths in whom there was (A)no impairment, who were good-looking, suitable for (B)instruction in every kind of expertise, endowed with understanding and discerning knowledge, and who had ability to [a]serve in the king’s [b]court; and he ordered Ashpenaz to teach them the [c]literature and (C)language of the (D)Chaldeans. The king also allotted for them a daily ration from the (E)king’s choice food and from the wine which he drank, and ordered that they be educated for three years, at the end of which they were to [d](F)enter the king’s personal service. Now among them from the sons of Judah were (G)Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

young men without any physical defect, handsome,(A) showing aptitude for every kind of learning,(B) well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language(C) and literature of the Babylonians.[a] The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine(D) from the king’s table.(E) They were to be trained for three years,(F) and after that they were to enter the king’s service.(G)

Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel,(H) Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.(I)
