19 He must keep this scroll with him all the time. He must continue to read it every day of his life. If he does that, he will learn to respect the Lord his God. He will learn to obey all the rules and commands of this Law. 20 If he does that, he will not become proud. He will not think that he is better than other Israelites. He will continue to obey the Lord's commands. Then he and his descendants will rule Israel as kings for many years.

19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life(A) so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees(B) 20 and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law(C) to the right or to the left.(D) Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.(E)
