16 “On the day that you were gathered at Mount Sinai, you begged not to hear the Lord speak again or to see his fiery presence any more, because you were afraid you would die. 17 So the Lord said to me, ‘They have made a wise request. 18 I will send them a prophet like you from among their own people; I will tell him what to say, and he[a] will tell the people everything I command.

New International Version
16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”(A)
17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet(B) like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words(C) in his mouth.(D) He will tell them everything I command him.(E)
