16 (A)They made Him jealous with strange gods;
(B)With abominations they provoked Him to anger.
17 (C)They sacrificed to demons who were not God,
(D)To gods whom they have not known,
(E)New gods who came lately,
Whom your fathers did not dread.
18 You neglected (F)the Rock who begot you,
(G)And forgot the God who brought you forth.

and angered(B) him with their detestable idols.

gods your ancestors did not fear.
18 You deserted the Rock, who fathered you;
you forgot(G) the God who gave you birth.
