New International Version

³You saw with your own eyes what the Lord did at Baal Peor.^(A) The Lord your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor,

⁸^(A)We must not indulge in sexual immorality ^(B)as some of them did, and ^(C)twenty-three thousand fell in a single day.

⁸We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.^(A)
