3 He[a] did not make this covenant with our ancestors[b] but with us, we who are here today, all of us living now. 4 The Lord spoke face to face with you at the mountain, from the middle of the fire. 5 (I was standing between the Lord and you at that time to reveal the Lord’s message to you, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain.) He said:

3 It was not with our ancestors[a] that the Lord made this covenant, but with us,(A) with all of us who are alive here today.(B) 4 The Lord spoke(C) to you face to face(D) out of the fire(E) on the mountain. 5 (At that time I stood between(F) the Lord and you to declare to you the word of the Lord, because you were afraid(G) of the fire and did not go up the mountain.)
