¹⁶ If ^(A)a malicious witness arises to accuse a person of wrongdoing, ¹⁷ then both parties to the dispute shall appear before the Lord, ^(B)before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days. ¹⁸ The judges shall ^(C)inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely,

¹⁰ And set two ^(A)worthless men opposite him, and let them bring a charge against him, saying, ^(B)‘You have cursed^[a] God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”

¹³ And the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him. And the worthless men brought a charge against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council^{[a] (A)}were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, ⁶⁰ but they found none, ^(B)though many false witnesses came forward. At last ^(C)two came forward ⁶¹ and said, “This man said, ^(D)‘I am able to ^(E)destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’”

¹¹ Then ^(A)they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

¹³ and they ^(A)set up false ^(B)witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against ^(C)this holy place and the law,
