¹⁰ All of you are standing today in the presence of the Lord your God—your leaders and chief men, your elders and officials, and all the other men of Israel,

²⁴ When they had brought these kings^(A) to Joshua, he summoned all the men of Israel and said to the army commanders who had come with him, “Come here and put your feet^(B) on the necks of these kings.” So they came forward and placed their feet^(C) on their necks.

³³ All the men of Israel moved from their places and took up positions at Baal Tamar, and the Israelite ambush charged out of its place^(A) on the west^[a] of Gibeah.^[b]

¹⁵ So all the people went to Gilgal^(A) and made Saul king^(B) in the presence of the Lord. There they sacrificed fellowship offerings before the Lord, and Saul and all the Israelites held a great celebration.

¹⁹ They are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines.”

¹⁸ Hushai said to Absalom, “No, the one chosen by the Lord, by these people, and by all the men of Israel—his I will be, and I will remain with him.

¹⁴ Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice^(A) of Hushai the Arkite is better than that of Ahithophel.”^(B) For the Lord had determined to frustrate^(C) the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster^(D) on Absalom.^(E)

Absalom’s Death

²⁴ David went to Mahanaim,^(A) and Absalom crossed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.

⁴¹ Soon all the men of Israel were coming to the king and saying to him, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, steal the king away and bring him and his household across the Jordan, together with all his men?”^(A)

² So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bikri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
