⁵ But thus shall you deal with them: ^(A)you shall break down their altars and dash in pieces their ^(B)pillars and chop down their ^(C)Asherim and ^(D)burn their carved images with fire.

³ You shall tear down their altars and dash in pieces ^(A)their pillars and burn their ^(B)Asherim with fire. You shall chop down the carved images of their gods and ^(C)destroy their name out of that place.

^2 (A)and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ^(B)you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done?

²⁵ That night the Lord said to him, “Take your father's bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down ^(A)the Asherah that is beside it

³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of David his father, and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the ^(A)Asherim, and the carved and the metal images. ⁴ And they chopped down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and he cut down the ^(B)incense altars that stood above them. And he broke in pieces the ^(C)Asherim and the carved and the metal images, and he made dust of them and ^(D)scattered it over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
