13 I saw that wisdom is more beneficial than folly, as light is more beneficial than darkness.
14 The wise have eyes in their head,
but fools walk around in darkness.
But I also realized that the same fate happens to both of them. 15 So I thought to myself, What happens to the fool will also happen to me. So why have I been so very wise? I said to myself, This too is pointless.

13 I saw that wisdom(A) is better than folly,(B)
just as light is better than darkness.
14 The wise have eyes in their heads,
while the fool walks in the darkness;
but I came to realize
that the same fate overtakes them both.(C)
15 Then I said to myself,
“The fate of the fool will overtake me also.
What then do I gain by being wise?”(D)
I said to myself,
“This too is meaningless.”
