Ecclesiastes 3:19-21

¹⁹For the outcome^[a] for the children of Adam and the outcome for animals is the same. One dies just like the other. All have the same breath. Mankind has no advantage over animals, because everything is vapor. ²⁰All go to the same place. All were from the dust, and to the dust all return. ²¹Who knows whether the spirit^[b] of the man goes upward, and the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?

¹⁹Surely the fate of human beings^(A) is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath^[a]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. ²⁰All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.^(B) ²¹Who knows if the human spirit rises upward^(C) and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”
