Good News Translation

¹⁷But don't be too wicked or too foolish, either—why die before you have to? ¹⁸Avoid both extremes. If you have reverence for God, you will be successful anyway.

¹⁹Wisdom does more for a person than ten rulers can do for a city.

New International Version

¹⁷Do not be overwicked,
    and do not be a fool—
    why die before your time?^(A)
¹⁸It is good to grasp the one
    and not let go of the other.
    Whoever fears God^(B) will avoid all extremes.^[a]

¹⁹Wisdom^(C) makes one wise person more powerful^(D)
than ten rulers in a city.
