3 Let the king appoint commissioners(A) in each province of his kingdom, so that they may gather all the beautiful young virgins to the harem at the fortress of Susa.(B) Put them under the supervision of Hegai, the king’s eunuch,(C) keeper of the women,(D) and give them the required beauty treatments. 4 Then the young woman who pleases the king(E) will become queen instead of Vashti.”(F) This suggestion pleased the king, and he did accordingly.
5 In the fortress of Susa, there was a Jewish man named Mordecai(G) son of Jair, son of Shimei,(H) son of Kish,(I) a Benjaminite.

3 Let the king appoint commissioners in every province of his realm to bring all these beautiful young women into the harem at the citadel of Susa. Let them be placed under the care of Hegai, the king’s eunuch, who is in charge of the women; and let beauty treatments be given to them. 4 Then let the young woman who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti.” This advice appealed to the king, and he followed it.
5 Now there was in the citadel of Susa a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin, named Mordecai son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish,(A)
