¹²Then Mordecai returned to the King’s Gate,^(A) but Haman, overwhelmed,^[a] hurried off for home with his head covered.^(B)

¹²Afterward Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman rushed home, with his head covered^(A) in grief,

²⁴The earth^[a] is handed over to the wicked;
He blindfolds^[b] its judges.^(A)
If it isn’t He, then who is it?

²⁴When a land falls into the hands of the wicked,^(A)
he blindfolds its judges.^(B)
If it is not he, then who is it?^(C)
