13 And (so) the Egyptians hated the sons of Israel, and tormented, and scorned them;
14 and they brought their life to bitterness, by hard works of clay and of tilestone, and by all servage, by which they were oppressed in the works of [the] earth. (and they made their life bitter, by hard work with clay and bricks, and by all the servitude, or all the slavery, by which they were oppressed with their work in the land.)
15 Forsooth the king of Egypt said to the midwives of (the) Hebrews, of which one was called Shiphrah, [and] the tother Puah;

13 and worked them ruthlessly.(A) 14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor(B) in brick(C) and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.(D)
15 The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives,(E) whose names were Shiphrah and Puah,

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
