⁵¹ And on that same day ^(A)Yahweh brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt ^[a](B)by their hosts.

⁵ Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased. For ^(A)they were ^[a]struck down in the wilderness. ⁶ Now these things happened as ^(B)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as ^(C)they also craved.

⁷ Do not be ^(D)idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “^(E)The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to ^(F)play.” ⁸ Nor let us act in sexual immorality, as ^(G)some of them ^[b]did, and ^(H)twenty-three thousand fell in one day. ⁹ Nor let us put Christ to the test, as ^(I)some of them ^[c]did, and were destroyed by the serpents. ¹⁰ Nor ^(J)grumble, as some of them ^[d]did, and ^(K)were destroyed by the ^(L)destroyer.

¹⁶ For who ^(A)provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, ^(B)did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? ¹⁷ And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, ^(C)whose corpses fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did He swear ^(D)that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were ^(E)disobedient? ¹⁹ So we see that they were not able to enter because of ^(F)unbelief.
