18 So God led the people by the roundabout way of the wilderness bordering the Red Sea.[a] The Israelites went up out of the land of Egypt prepared for battle. 19 And Moses took with him the bones of Joseph, who had required a solemn oath of the Israelites, saying, “God will surely come to you, and then you must carry my bones with you from here.”(A) 20 They set out from Succoth and camped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.(B)

New International Version
18 So God led(A) the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.[a] The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.(B)
19 Moses took the bones of Joseph(C) with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”[b](D)
20 After leaving Sukkoth(E) they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert.(F)
