19 And Moses took (A)the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely [a]take care of you, and you shall bring up my bones from here with you.” 20 Then they set out from (B)Succoth and camped in Etham on the edge of the wilderness. 21 (C)And Yahweh was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to guide them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might go by day and by night.

New International Version
19 Moses took the bones of Joseph(A) with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”[a](B)
20 After leaving Sukkoth(C) they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert.(D) 21 By day the Lord went ahead(E) of them in a pillar of cloud(F) to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.
