21 (A)The Lord preceded them, in the daytime by means of a column of cloud to show them the way, and at night by means of a column of fire[a] to give them light. Thus they could travel both day and night.

God’s Presence in the Tabernacle. 34 (A)Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting, because the cloud settled down upon it and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 36 Whenever the cloud rose from the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out on their journey. 37 But if the cloud did not lift, they would not go forward; only when it lifted did they go forward. 38 The cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire in the cloud at night, in the sight of the whole house of Israel in all the stages of their journey.

The Glory of the Lord

34 Then the cloud(A) covered the tent of meeting, and the glory(B) of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory(C) of the Lord filled the tabernacle.(D)

36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;(E) 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. 38 So the cloud(F) of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.
