Exodus 18:2-4 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Now Jethro, Moses’s father-in-law, had taken in Zipporah, Moses’s wife, after he had sent her back, along with her two sons, one of whom was named Gershom[a] (because Moses had said, “I have been a resident alien in a foreign land”) and the other Eliezer (because he had said, “The God of my father was my helper and rescued me from Pharaoh’s sword”).[b]

Footnotes:

  1. 18:3 In Hb the name Gershom sounds like the phrase “a stranger there.”
  2. 18:4 = My God Is Help
