2 “[a]If the (A)thief is [b]caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account. 3 But if the sun has risen on him, there will be bloodguiltiness on his account. He shall surely make restitution; if he owns nothing, then he shall be (B)sold for his theft. 4 If what he stole is actually found alive in his hand, whether an ox or a donkey or a sheep, (C)he shall pay double.

2 “If a thief is caught breaking in(A) at night and is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed;(B) 3 but if it happens after sunrise, the defender is guilty of bloodshed.
“Anyone who steals must certainly make restitution,(C) but if they have nothing, they must be sold(D) to pay for their theft. 4 If the stolen animal is found alive in their possession(E)—whether ox or donkey or sheep—they must pay back double.(F)
