¹⁰ therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

¹⁶ “At this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over my people Israel.^(A) He will save them from the Philistines because I have seen the affliction of my people,^(B) for their cry has come to me.”

16 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long are you going to mourn for Saul,^(A) since I have rejected him as king over Israel?^(B) Fill your horn with oil^(C) and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem^(D) because I have selected for myself a king from his sons.”

⁷ Then the Lord said to me:

The Cup of God’s Wrath

¹⁵ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take this cup of the wine of wrath from my hand and make all the nations to whom I am sending you drink from it.^(A)

³ He said to me, “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to^[a] the rebellious pagans who have rebelled against me. The Israelites and their ancestors have transgressed against me to this day.^{(A) 4} The descendants are obstinate^[b] and hardhearted.^(B) I am sending you to them, and you must say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says.’

⁵ Look, I am going to send you the prophet Elijah^(A) before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.^(B)

²¹ Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me,^(A) I also send you.”^(B)
