2 And (A)I will send an Angel before thee, and will cast out the Canaanites, the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites,
3 To a land, I say, that floweth with milk and honey: for I will not go up with thee, (B)because thou art a stiff-necked people, lest I consume thee in the way.
4 And when the people heard this evil tidings, they sorrowed, and no man put on his best raiment.

2 I will send an angel(A) before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.(B) 3 Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey.(C) But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked(D) people and I might destroy(E) you on the way.”
4 When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn(F) and no one put on any ornaments.
