²³ During that long period,^(A) the king of Egypt died.^(B) The Israelites groaned in their slavery^(C) and cried out, and their cry^(D) for help because of their slavery went up to God.

⁹ And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing^(A) them.

¹⁸ and said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the power of Egypt and all the kingdoms that oppressed^(A) you.’

⁴ Then Jehoahaz sought^(A) the Lord’s favor, and the Lord listened to him, for he saw^(B) how severely the king of Aram was oppressing^(C) Israel.

¹⁹ He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our ancestors by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die.^(A)
