Capital Offenses

¹⁸ “You must not allow a sorceress^(A) to live.

¹⁹ “Whoever has sexual intercourse with an animal^(B) must be put to death.

²⁰ “Whoever sacrifices to any gods, except the Lord alone, is to be set apart for destruction.^(C)

Laws Protecting the Vulnerable

²¹ “You must not exploit a foreign resident^(D) or oppress him, since you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

²² “You must not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.^{(E) 23} If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to Me, and I will certainly hear their cry.^{(F) 24} My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.^(G)

¹⁰ No one among you is to make his son or daughter pass through the fire,^[a](A) practice divination, tell fortunes, interpret omens, practice sorcery,

¹⁴ “Do not oppress a hired hand who is poor and needy, whether one of your brothers or one of the foreigners residing within a town^[a] in your land.

¹⁷ Do not deny justice to a foreigner or fatherless child, and do not take a widow’s garment as security.

⁶ if you no longer oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow^(A) and no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow other gods, bringing harm on yourselves,
