(A)For six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; on it (B)you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male slave or your female slave, or your cattle, or your [a]resident who [b]stays with you. 11 (C)For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and everything that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day; for that reason the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 (D)Honor your father and your mother, so that your (E)days may be prolonged on the land which the Lord your God gives you.

13 (F)You shall not murder.

14 (G)You shall not commit adultery.

15 (H)You shall not steal.

16 (I)You shall not [c]give false testimony against your (J)neighbor.

17 (K)You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; (L)you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male slave, or his female slave, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

18 And (M)all the people were watching and hearing the [d]thunder and the lightning flashes, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it all, they trembled and stood at a distance. 19 (N)Then they said to Moses, “Speak [e]to us yourself and we will listen; but do not have God speak [f]to us, or we will die!” 20 However, Moses said to the people, “(O)Do not be afraid; for God has come in order (P)to test you, and in order that (Q)the fear of Him may [g]remain with you, so that you will not sin.” 21 So the people stood at a distance, while Moses approached (R)the thick darkness where God was.

22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen that (S)I have spoken [h]to you from heaven. 23 (T)You shall not make other gods besides Me; (U)gods of silver or gods of gold, you shall not make for yourselves. 24 You shall make (V)an altar of earth for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your (W)burnt offerings and your (X)peace offerings, (Y)your sheep and your oxen; in every place (Z)where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you. 25 And if you make an altar of stone for Me, (AA)you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your chisel on it, you will profane it. 26 And you shall not go up by steps to My altar, so that (AB)your nakedness will not be exposed on it.’

13 For six days you [a]shall labor and do all your work, 14 but (A)the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; you shall not do any work that day, you or your son or your daughter, or your male slave or your female slave, or your ox, your donkey, or any of your cattle, or your [b]resident who [c]stays with you, so that your male slave and your female slave may rest as well as you. 15 (B)And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to [d]celebrate the Sabbath day.

16 (C)Honor your father and your mother, just as the Lord your God has commanded you, (D)so that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well for you on the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

17 (E)You shall not murder.

18 (F)You shall not commit adultery.

19 (G)You shall not steal.

20 (H)You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

21 (I)You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his male slave or his female slave, his ox, his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.’

Moses Interceded

22 “These words the Lord spoke to your whole assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, from the cloud, and from the thick darkness, with a great voice, and He added nothing more. (J)He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. 23 And when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you approached me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. 24 You said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with mankind, yet he lives. 25 (K)Now then, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer, then we will die! 26 For (L)who is there of [e]humanity who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? 27 [f]Go near and listen to everything that the Lord our God says; then speak to us everything that the Lord our God speaks to you, and we will listen and do it.’

28 “Now the Lord heard the sound of your words when you spoke to me, (M)and the Lord said to me, ‘I have heard the sound of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken. 29 (N)If only they had such a heart in them, to fear Me and (O)keep all My commandments always, so that (P)it would go well with them and with their sons forever! 30 Go, say to them, “Return to your tents.” 31 (Q)But as for you, stand here by Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments which you shall teach them, so that they may [g]follow them in the land which I am giving them to possess.’ 32 So you shall be careful to do just as the Lord your God has commanded you; (R)you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 (S)You shall walk [h]entirely in the way which the Lord your God has commanded you, (T)so that you may live and that it may be well for you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.
