²⁰ You must redeem the firstborn of a donkey with a sheep, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.^(A) You must redeem all the firstborn of your sons. No one is to appear before Me empty-handed.

⁴⁶ As the redemption price for the 273 firstborn Israelites who outnumber the Levites, ⁴⁷ collect five shekels for each person, according to the standard sanctuary shekel—20 gerahs to the shekel.^(A)

¹⁵ The firstborn of every living thing, man or animal, presented to the Lord belongs to you. But you must certainly redeem the firstborn of man,^(A) and redeem the firstborn of an unclean animal.
