²³ So Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail.^(A) Lightning struck the land, and the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt.

¹⁶ On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud on the mountain, and a very loud blast from a ram’s horn, so that all the people in the camp shuddered.

¹⁹ As the sound of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him in the thunder.^(A)

The People’s Reaction

¹⁸ All the people witnessed^[a] the thunder and lightning, the sound of the ram’s horn, and the mountain surrounded by smoke. When the people saw it^[b] they trembled and stood at a distance.^(A)

¹⁸ Samuel called on the Lord, and on that day the Lord sent thunder and rain. As a result, all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.^(A)

⁵ You will flee by my mountain valley,^[a] for the valley of the mountains will extend to Azal. You will flee as you fled^[b] from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah.^(A) Then the Lord my God will come and all the holy ones^(B) with him.^[c](C)
