“‘But they turned against me and refused to listen to me. They did not throw away the hated idols which they saw and liked. They did not leave the idols of Egypt. Then I decided to pour out my anger against them in the land of Egypt. But I acted to show who I am. I did not allow myself to be dishonored before the nations where the Israelites lived. I made myself known to the Israelites. I did this by bringing them out of Egypt while the nations were watching. 10 So I took them out of Egypt and brought them into the desert.

“‘But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me;(A) they did not get rid of the vile images they had set their eyes on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt.(B) So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in Egypt.(C) But for the sake of my name, I brought them out of Egypt.(D) I did it to keep my name from being profaned(E) in the eyes of the nations among whom they lived and in whose sight I had revealed myself to the Israelites. 10 Therefore I led them out of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.(F)
