The Desolation of Israel

¹⁴“The trumpet calls Israel’s army to mobilize,
    but no one listens,
    for my fury is against them all.
¹⁵There is war outside the city
    and disease and famine within.
Those outside the city walls
    will be killed by enemy swords.
Those inside the city
    will die of famine and disease.
¹⁶The survivors who escape to the mountains
    will moan like doves, weeping for their sins.

¹⁴“‘They have blown the trumpet,^(A)
    they have made all things ready,
but no one will go into battle,
    for my wrath^(B) is on the whole crowd.
¹⁵Outside is the sword;
    inside are plague and famine.
Those in the country
    will die by the sword;
those in the city
    will be devoured by famine and plague.^(C)
¹⁶The fugitives^(D) who escape
    will flee to the mountains.
Like doves^(E) of the valleys,
    they will all moan,
    each for their own sins.^(F)

¹⁴They have blown the trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goeth to the battle: for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

¹⁵The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.

¹⁶But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.
