Rebuilding the House of God Begins Again

5 And the prophets, ^(A)Haggai the prophet and ^(B)Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them.

¹⁴ And ^(A)the elders of the Jews were building and succeeding through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. So they built and completed it according to the decree of the God of Israel and the decree ^(B)of Cyrus, ^(C)Darius, and ^(D)Artaxerxes king of Persia.

The People’s Hard Hearts

7 Now it happened that in the fourth year of King Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is ^(A)Chislev.

³⁵ so that upon you may fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous ^(A)Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the ^(B)son of Berechiah, whom ^(C)you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.

⁵¹ from ^(A)the blood of Abel to ^(B)the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be ^[a]charged against this generation.’
