⁶ —came up from Babylon. He was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses,^(A) which Yahweh, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he requested^(B) because the hand of Yahweh his God was on him.^(C)

⁴ Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform^(A) made for this purpose. Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah stood beside him on his right; to his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hash-baddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
