14 This happened[a] in order that the blessing promised to[b] Abraham would come to the gentiles through the Messiah[c] Jesus, so that we might receive the promised Spirit[d] through faith.

15 Brothers, let me use an example from everyday life.[e] Once an agreement[f] has been ratified, no one can cancel it or add conditions to it. 16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. It doesn’t say “descendants,” referring to many, but “your descendant,”[g] referring to one person, who is the Messiah.[h]

15 Brothers and sisters,(C) let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. 16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed.(D) Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,”[a](E) meaning one person, who is Christ.
