Genesis 15:10-12
New English Translation
10 So Abram[a] took all these for him and then cut them in two[b] and placed each half opposite the other,[c] but he did not cut the birds in half. 11 When birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.
12 When the sun went down, Abram fell sound asleep,[d] and great terror overwhelmed him.[e]

New International Version
10 Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other;(A) the birds, however, he did not cut in half.(B) 11 Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses,(C) but Abram drove them away.
12 As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep,(D) and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.
