¹³ God said to Abram, “Know for certain that ^(A)your ^[a]descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, ^[b]where ^(B)they will be enslaved and oppressed ^(C)four hundred years. ¹⁴ But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out ^(D)with ^[c]many possessions. ¹⁵ As for you, ^(E)you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age. ¹⁶ Then in ^(F)the fourth generation they will return here, for ^(G)the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.”

¹⁷ It came about when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a flaming torch which ^(H)passed between these pieces. ¹⁸ On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying,

^19 (K)the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.”

¹⁶ and said, “^(A)By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, ¹⁷ indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly ^(B)multiply your ^[a]seed as the stars of the heavens and as ^(C)the sand which is on the seashore; and ^(D)your ^[b]seed shall possess the gate of ^[c]their enemies. ^18 (E)In your ^[d]seed all the nations of the earth shall ^[e]be blessed, because you have ^(F)obeyed My voice.”

² The Lord ^(A)appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; ^[a](B)stay in the land of which I shall tell you. ³ Sojourn in this land and ^(C)I will be with you and ^(D)bless you, for ^(E)to you and to your ^[b]descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish ^(F)the oath which I swore to your father Abraham. ^4 (G)I will multiply your ^[c]descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your ^[d]descendants all these lands; and ^(H)by your ^[e]descendants all the nations of the earth ^[f]shall be blessed; ⁵ because Abraham ^[g](I)obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws.”

¹³ And behold, ^(A)the Lord stood ^[a]above it and said, “I am the Lord, ^(B)the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it ^(C)to you and to ^(D)your ^[b]descendants. ¹⁴ Your ^[c]descendants will also be like ^(E)the dust of the earth, and you will ^[d]spread out ^(F)to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and ^(G)in you and in your ^[e]descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ¹⁵ Behold, ^(H)I am with you and ^(I)will keep you wherever you go, and ^(J)will bring you back to this land; for ^(K)I will not leave you until I have done what I have ^[f]promised you.”
