10 The Messenger of Yahweh also said to her, “I will give you many descendants. No one will be able to count them because there will be so many.” 11 Then the Messenger of Yahweh said to her,
“You are pregnant,
and you will give birth to a son.
You will name him Ishmael [God Hears],
because Yahweh has heard your cry of distress.
12 He will be as free and wild as an untamed donkey.
He will fight with everyone, and everyone will fight with him.
He will have conflicts with all his relatives.”[a]

10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”(A)
11 The angel of the Lord(B) also said to her:
“You are now pregnant
and you will give birth to a son.(C)
You shall name him(D) Ishmael,[a](E)
for the Lord has heard of your misery.(F)
12 He will be a wild donkey(G) of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
toward[b] all his brothers.(H)”
