⁴⁰ As when God overthrew ^(A)Sodom
And Gomorrah with its neighbors,” declares the Lord,
“No one will live there,
Nor will ^[a]anyone of mankind reside in it.

¹¹ “I overthrew you, as ^(A)God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a ^(B)log snatched from a fire;
Yet you have ^(C)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.

⁹ Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of armies,
The God of Israel,
“^(A)Moab will assuredly be like ^(B)Sodom,
And the sons of ^(C)Ammon like ^(D)Gomorrah—
Ground overgrown with weeds and full of salt mines,
And a permanent desolation.
The remnant of My people will ^(E)plunder them,
And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”
