Genesis 28:13-19 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

13 And behold, the Lord stood [a]above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your [b]descendants. 14 Your [c]descendants will also be like the dust of the earth, and you will [d]spread out to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and in you and in your [e]descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have [f]promised you.” 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

18 So Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put [g]under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on its top. 19 He called the name of that place [h]Bethel; however, [i]previously the name of the city had been Luz.

Genesis 28:13-19 New International Version (NIV)

13 There above it[a] stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.[b] 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.

16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”

18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. 19 He called that place Bethel,[c] though the city used to be called Luz.

Genesis 35:10-15 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

10 God said to him,

“Your name is Jacob;
[a]You shall no longer be called Jacob,
But Israel shall be your name.”

Thus He called [b]him Israel. 11 God also said to him,

“I am [c]God Almighty;
Be fruitful and multiply;
A nation and a company of nations shall [d]come from you,
And kings shall [e]come forth from [f]you.
12 The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac,
I will give it to you,
And I will give the land to your [g]descendants after you.”

13 Then God went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him. 14 Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He had spoken with him, a pillar of stone, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it. 15 So Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him, [h]Bethel.

Genesis 35:10-15 New International Version (NIV)

10 God said to him, “Your name is Jacob,[a] but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.[b] So he named him Israel.

A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants. 12 The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you. 13 Then God went up from him at the place where he had talked with him.

14 Jacob set up a stone pillar at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it. 15 Jacob called the place where God had talked with him Bethel.[d]
