He saw a well in the countryside and three flocks of sheep lying beside it. The flocks would drink at this well, but the stone over the mouth of the well was very large. When all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone from the mouth of the well and the sheep would drink there. They would then replace the stone over the mouth of the well.

Jacob said to them, “My brothers, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”

There he saw a well in the open country, with three flocks of sheep lying near it because the flocks were watered from that well.(A) The stone(B) over the mouth of the well was large. When all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone(C) away from the well’s mouth and water the sheep.(D) Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.

Jacob asked the shepherds, “My brothers, where are you from?”(E)

“We’re from Harran,(F)” they replied.
