Genesis 32:30-32
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
30 So Jacob called the place Peniel,[a] saying, “For I have seen God face to face, yet my life is preserved.”(A) 31 The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip. 32 Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the thigh muscle that is on the hip socket, because he struck Jacob on the hip socket at the thigh muscle.

30 So Jacob called the place Peniel,[a] saying, “It is because I saw God face to face,(A) and yet my life was spared.”
31 The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel,[b](B) and he was limping because of his hip. 32 Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip,(C) because the socket of Jacob’s hip was touched near the tendon.
