5 I have oxen, donkeys, flocks, and male and female slaves. I have sent this message to inform my lord, in order to seek your favor.’”(A)
6 When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, “We went to your brother Esau; he is coming to meet you—and he has four hundred men with him.”(B) 7 Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; he divided the people with him into two camps, along with the flocks, herds, and camels.

5 I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, male and female servants.(A) Now I am sending this message to my lord,(B) that I may find favor in your eyes.(C)’”
6 When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, “We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”(D)
7 In great fear(E) and distress(F) Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups,[a](G) and the flocks and herds and camels as well.
