3 Now let’s get up and go up to Beth-El so that I can make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and has been with me in the way that I have gone.”
4 So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods in their hand and the rings in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak tree near Shechem. 5 Then they journeyed, and the terror of God was on the cities that were around them, so they did not pursue Jacob’s sons.

3 Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God,(A) who answered me in the day of my distress(B) and who has been with me wherever I have gone.(C)” 4 So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears,(D) and Jacob buried them under the oak(E) at Shechem.(F) 5 Then they set out, and the terror of God(G) fell on the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.(H)
