He built an altar there and called that place El Bethel [God of the House of God]. That’s where Elohim had revealed himself to Jacob when he was fleeing from his brother. Rebekah’s nurse Deborah died and was buried under the oak tree outside Bethel. So Jacob called it the Tree of Crying.

Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse,(E) died and was buried under the oak(F) outside Bethel.(G) So it was named Allon Bakuth.[b]

After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,[c](H) God appeared to him again and blessed him.(I)
