The Sons of Joseph

⁵⁰ Now before the year of famine came, ^(A)two sons were born to Joseph, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of ^[a]On, bore to him. ⁵¹ Joseph named the firstborn ^[b]Manasseh; “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my trouble and all of my father’s household.” ⁵² And he named the second ^[c]Ephraim; “For,” he said, “^(B)God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

^20 (A)Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.

Israel’s Last Days

48 Now it came about after these things that ^[a]Joseph was told, “Behold, your father is sick.” So he took his two sons ^(A)Manasseh and Ephraim with him.

⁴ For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, ^(A)Manasseh and Ephraim, and they did not give a portion to the Levites in the land, except cities to live in, with their pasture lands for their livestock and for their property.
