5 but if you will not send[a] him, we will not go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face unless your brother is with you.’” 6 Then Israel said, “Why did you bring trouble to me by telling the man you still had a brother?” 7 And they said, “The man asked explicitly about us and about our family, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Do you have a brother?’ And we answered him according to these words. How could we know that he would say, ‘Bring down your brother’?”

6 Israel(B) asked, “Why did you bring this trouble(C) on me by telling the man you had another brother?”
7 They replied, “The man questioned us closely about ourselves and our family. ‘Is your father still living?’(D) he asked us. ‘Do you have another brother?’(E) We simply answered his questions. How were we to know he would say, ‘Bring your brother down here’?”(F)
