2 When Jacob heard that Joseph had arrived, he gathered his strength and sat up in the bed to greet him, 3 and said to him,
“God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, 4 and said to me, ‘I will make you a great nation and I will give this land of Canaan to you and to your children’s children, for an everlasting possession.’

2 When Jacob was told, “Your son Joseph has come to you,” Israel(A) rallied his strength and sat up on the bed.
3 Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty[a](B) appeared to me at Luz(C) in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me(D) 4 and said to me, ‘I am going to make you fruitful and increase your numbers.(E) I will make you a community of peoples, and I will give this land(F) as an everlasting possession to your descendants after you.’(G)
